Curriculum 2014/15 onwards - Doctoral academic studies

Within the framework of Doctoral studies from the field of physical education and sport, the Faculty designed the program „Experimental methods of research of human locomotion“, cosnsiting of a common core and two separate modules of fundamental and applied research of human locomotion. In-depth study of courses within each module provides access to elaboration of doctoral dissertation.

The curriculum of the study program insists on training students for:

  • independent choice of the research problem, study and analysis of relevant literature related to the selected problem;
  • independent establishing of dynamics, planning and realization of necessary research stages;
  • independent presentation of research results (in the prescribed form, the scientific paper, dissertation);
  • creation of objective and critical stance, both towards the results of others, and of the results of their own research.

The study program corresponds to the workload of 180 ECTS credits. The length of the study program is six semesters.

The curriculum of the study program contains obligatory and elective courses, independent research paper and elaboration of doctoral dissertation.

Doctoral dissertation, as the independent research paper of a student, carry the weight of 30 ECTS credits, which is added to the total of credits needed for completion of doctoral studies. A Doctoral studies student is expected to acquire 100 ECTS credits (Module of Fundamental research) and 120 ECTS credits (Module of Applied research) in courses related to the topic and elaboration of dissertation.

The number of credits gained from elective courses and elective contents within certain obligatory subjects corresponds to the percentage of eligibility factor of 50 %. Elective courses are chosen from the list of elective courses in consultation with the mentor and the needs of the research that he/she is managing.

The last year of studies is intended for the research paper and completion of the doctoral dissertation. Before defence of his/her doctoral dissertation, the PhD candidate has to publish at least one related scientific research paper in the journal of international importance (see the relevant list of the Ministry of Science).

The procedure of application, elaboration and defence of doctoral dissertation is regulated by the Faculty Rulebook on Doctoral Studies.

Specification of each course provides exam prerequisites, their workload in the total sum of credit points, as well as the way of exam taking, which is provided in the Program specifications of the curriculum of Doctoral academic studies.
